Hair Scissor Care & Maintenance

To clean scissors, carefully use the cleaning cloth provided by the manufacturer, or use a clean, soft cloth. Dampen the cloth with isopropyl alcohol if necessary. Place them in the open to dry.

To lubricate, open the scissors to a cross position and place a drop of oil on the inside of each of the blades near the pivot screw once a day. Then, open and close them several times, as you normally would while cutting, to distribute the oil. Use an oil provided by your scissor manufacturer or your sharpening service. A needle-nosed oil bottle should be used for application so that you’re able to put the oil where needed.

After lubricating, and before each use, check the tension. With your left hand hold the scissors by the ring without the finger rest, point facing up. With your right hand hold the ring with the finger rest, and open the shears so that it forms a cross. Release the ring in your right hand. It should drop about ½ to ⅔ of the way, before it comes to a stop without the handles touching. If the handles meet, the tension is too loose.
